Vickers built their 6 ton tanks during the 1930s for
export to many countries.
The Russians built this vehicle under license,
naming it the T-26. They also realised that the chassis couls be
used for quite a few other purposes, including command vehicles,
ammunition carriers, gun tractors and the subject here, the AT-1
Assault Gun.
Some historians give this vehicle with the credit
for inspiring the very successful German Sturmgeschutz III.
Mirage of Poland has recently released a whole
series based on the Vickers 6 ton tanks in 1/72 and 1/35 scales.
This recent release has 217 parts - phew! Many 1/35
scale model tanks may have that many parts, but some of these pieces
are very small. They may represent a challenge to modellers who are
not used to working with tiny components.
The AT-1 kit features a detailed interior including
a gun and mount, light machine gun and ammunition storage for both.
Colour callouts for the interior are included in the instructions.
Fortunately, the fighting compartment has two large side hatches and
one rear hatch that can all be postioned open so you can see the
evidence of your work. If the detail looks like too much hard work,
just leave the hatches closed and nobody will ever know!
Whether you fit out the interior or just build the
exterior of the AT-1, you will end up with a very attractive little
model.
Let me at it!
