From the 1980s, under the devoted stewardship of Steve Mackenzie, Kel Perks and Mark S. Newton, the IPMS NSW Club Magazine, News and Views, developed a great reputation for original research, with particular emphasis on Australian subjects.

It was my privilege to act as Editor of News and Views for Volume 13 in the mid 1990s.

Following my stint as Editor, the magazine went through some changes. It has now been relaunched as a new soft copy publication produced on Compact Disc. The electronic magazine is called "IN Miniature".

The focus is firmly on Australian aviation reference. This is hardly surprising, as noted aviation historian Steve Mackenzie has once again taken the helm.

The CD format is ideal for this type of magazine, as it is not hampered by formatting limitations imposed by print magazines, and offers excellent presentation of many large colour images. The pictures are well supported by plenty of original research text too.

In addition to the volume of reference articles, there are also several reviews and a report on Club activities.

A full description of the contents is listed below:

Conclusion

IN Miniature is a very interesting publication in a highly usable format - as long as you have a PC, that is. Of course, if you are reading this review you are probably already sold on the benefits of desktop computing!

This is a great publication for anybody interested in Australian aviation or modelling (plus a little military and naval thrown in too) and, at a maximum cost of AUD$30, represents great value for a full year subscription of four CDs. In fact, works out at less than USD$5 per disc including postage.

Recommended.

Thanks to Steve Mackenzie from IPMS NSW for the review sample.
