Italeri’s 1/24 scale kit of a MAN tga truck with Reefer Trailer is one
great big kit.
The box art is fantastic, showing a semi-nude girl
on the beach decorating the sides of the trailer. I’ll admit to being
worried at the prospect of trying to put a water slide decal that size
along the side of the trailer. Maybe Italeri was too, because they have
provide a stick on decal that, in my opinion, will be easier and less
likely to tear than a waterslide transfer of this size.
The truck chassis comes in one piece with the engine, mudguards and fuel
tank already attached. The suspension is quite detailed and along with
the air tanks and fuel tank, the under body area is a very busy place.
It seams a shame that much of it is hidden with the trailer and side
body panels attached.
The interior includes a bed and some large decals for instrument gauges.
The truck cab consists of 5 large pieces to make a box structure. To
this you then add all of those aerodynamic aids which all modern trucks
have. This is the only time the kit calls for the use of alternate
parts.
The trailer is a kit in itself, and Italeri have you make the trailer in
2 box sections which you then join together. A strong join is ensured
via locating tabs that are half the width of the trailer. The trailers
rails located under the box structure will require careful assemble to
keep them true and parallel whilst they dry. To this go the three rear
bogies and the six wheels.
To be honest, if you could ensemble the truck cab and trailer box
without any glue marks, you could get away without having to paint it.
The yellow coloured plastic is that good. Because I can’t (hey I’m
honest), I’ll be paint mine in Tamiya Yellow and maybe a clear coat.
I think this is a fantastic kit and I’m sure that if you bought this
one, you’d be going back to Italeri for more.
Keep an eye out for the finished kit soon on Hyperscale.
Highly Recommended.
