Hasegawa has come to the modellers rescue with a new
riveting wheel.
It is in the style of the pounce wheel, is all metal and
the teeth are rounded, which avoids the screw driver slot effect. Being
stainless steel the tool has a nice weight to it which makes control
easy.
I tried the tool out on a 1/72 Fine Molds Bf 109 kit. The tool was very
easy to use and as you can see from the photos a good effect can be
achieved with nice evenly spaced round rivets with a slight raised lip
around each one. If you do press too hard however there is a danger of
elongating the hole into a slot so be gentle.
I have highlighted the wing with black paint to show up
the holes. On my example there is the odd tooth which is shorter than
their neighbors, this means there is the odd gap in the line but this
easily touched up with the point of a compass.
In conclusion this is a very worthwhile addition to the modeller’s
arsenal. The teeth size and spacing aim it at the 1/72 and 1/48 modeller
and while not perfect you do get a very nice effect in the smaller
scales. The 1/72 Bf 109 took about half an hour to cover so it’s quick
as well as easy to use. Highly recommended.
I got mine from Hobby Link Japan for a very reasonable 1800 Yen, £8.25,
$15.50USD (Approximate conversions).
Recommended.
